Hearts Alive Village

Featured in Season 6, Episode 13, Season 7, Episode 3, and Season 7, Episode 9. A bond between Athens, a shelter dog, and a little girl became the catalyst that is now Hearts Alive Village. Kendall dreamed of a sanctuary where she could help homeless animals like Athens. She wrote about it in a 5th grade English journal where she named her organization Hearts Alive. When Christy Stevens read her daughter’s words, she asked Kendall “ Is this really your dream?” Kendall answered, “It’s what I want to do more than anything in the world, but I didn’t think it was possible because you work too much at your job, Mom.” The whole family got behind the idea! They started small in the fall of 2013 with Kendall’s Kupboard, a pet food bank. In January of 2014, Hearts Alive Village rescued its first two dogs, Roxy and Diesel. Today, the organization has saved thousands of dogs and cats with the help of the community, The Village.

Featured in Season 5, Episode 6 and Season 6, Episode 8. Deb Walker has owned & trained her dogs since high school age and runs the K9-Behavior Company of Roseburg, Oregon. Bob Walker is a retired Firefighter from the Portland, Oregon Fire Bureau. Bob served in Hazmat, Dive Recovery, Confined Space Rescue, Trench Rescue, High-Angle Rope Rescue, and served as the designated 'Critter-Getter' when animals need rescue. He served as a safety officer for 20 years and finished the last four years of his career training new fire department recruits.

Living Free Animal Sanctuary

Located near Idyllwild, California on 155 acres in the San Jacinto Mountains, Living Free is a nonprofit animal sanctuary whose primary mission is to rescue dogs and cats whose time is up at public shelters. We are also home to War Horse Creek, an immersive transition training program using rescued wild mustangs to assist veterans as they adjust to civilian life. War Horse Creek will be launching publicly later this year.

Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park

Featured in Season 6, Episode 1, Episode 4, and Episode 11. The Los Angeles Pet Memorial Park was founded by celebrity veterinarian Dr. Eugene Jones on September 4th, 1928, and became the final resting place for such animal stars as Tawny, one of the MGM Lions, Jiggs – “Cheetah” from Tarzan, Pete the Pup from “Our Gang”, and Topper – the trusty steed of Hopalong Cassidy.

Not only celebrity animals, but the animals of celebrities rest in peace at these enduring, revered grounds. Rudolph Valentino’s loyal Alsatian Doberman, Kabar, Mae West’s monkey, Boogie, Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall’s champagne cocker spaniel, Droopy, and Muggins, Jimmy Durante’s Irish Setter are among those interred at our cemetery.

Idyllwild, California

Featured in Season 5, Episode 13. As Idyllwild is a non-incorporated town, it has no human mayor. Idyllwild Animal Rescue Friends (ARF), a non-profit 501(c)(3), sponsored Idyllwild's first-ever mayoral election. Any resident was permitted to nominate his or her dog or cat. Fourteen dogs and two cats were nominated and ran for office.
